OSCE seminar focuses on the struggle against extremism and radicalism

The OSCE two-day seminar on the multi-faceted approach towards the struggle against extremism and radicalism in the modern world took place in the Yyldyz Hotel in Ashgabat.
The seminar brought together the representatives of various ministries and departments of Turkmenistan, public organisations, international experts on the fight against organized crime and terrorism, the OSCE experts as well as the specialists of the relevant structures in the US, the Netherlands, Finland, Norway, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan.
Those speaking during the forum noted that the struggle against violent extremism and radicalism became more efficient due to the establishment of the international system to counteract these global negative development and coordination of efforts of various states on the long-term basis.
The seminar participants put emphasis on the unique practices of Turkmenistan to prevent the radicalization of the population, in particular the youth. It was noted that the neutral status and the peace-making role of our state in the region and the world, as well as the constructive policy, pursued by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov with the aim to develop and educate the young generation based on the high moral ideals and the principles of humanity of the Turkmen people, allowed to efficiently counter any manifestations of extremist ideology.
In this regard, the experts underlined that the success achieved by Turkmenistan in this area were of particular interest for the world community and the authoritative structures in the struggle against terrorism. Moreover, Turkmenistan’s experience could be helpful for the improvement of the international practices to prevent and counteract the transnational threat.
The seminar participants also discussed the specific steps to strengthen cooperation and various national approaches in the struggle against violent extremism and radicalism.
